 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA





Introduction :- International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21st June as a global event. It was first proclaimed by the United Nations in December 2014 after Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi made a proposal regarding it in the opening event of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.


How to Celebrate International Yoga Day?


the International Day of Yoga is celebrated globally on 21st June every year in over 150 nations. Governments and people actively participate in yoga programs and collectively participate in it.

During the celebration of the first International Yoga Day on 21st June 2015, the ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) made special arrangements for the event in India. A total of 35, 985 people gathered at the Rajpath in New Delhi with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and practiced 21 yoga asanas or postures for 35 minutes. Several dignitaries from 84 other nations were also present at the event.

Since then the day is observed throughout the globe by several nations. Governments plan special yoga sessions for the citizens in offices, schools and common places. The private sector is also encouraged by the respective governments to let their employees adopt the practice of yoga regularly. Several non-government organizations also play an active role in the promotion of the events. The International Yoga Day is also widely talked about on social media platforms. People post their photographs practicing yoga in gardens, houses, and other places. Not only in India but people from several countries throughout the globe, post their photos practicing yoga. In India, special yoga sessions are organized, in which dignitaries and political leaders, bureaucrats, actors, etc., participate and inspire people to practice yoga.


Significance of International Yoga Day :- 

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that originated around 3000 BCE and is highly beneficial for physical, mental and spiritual strength. Practicing yoga in daily life has tremendous health benefits like – improves flexibility of the body; weight loss; overall development; improved concentration; reduces stress level; etc. Practicing yoga makes one, more calm, composed and confident as never before. It improves the happiness quotient of your life. On the other hand, yoga also acts as a preventive measure for several lifestyle diseases like blood pressure, hypertension, and diabetes, etc. People practicing yoga regularly, live longer, healthier, and happier than those who don’t. Practicing it will also take you to a new spiritual level where you will find more meaning in your life and existence.

It is being practiced in India for thousands of years and has withstood the test of times saving millions from sickness and providing them health and happiness.
